Simply put, contact dermatitis is your skin's bad reaction to coming in contact with something it doesn't like. I had it and believe me it was not pleasant. My contact dermatitis actually came from contact with my chiropractor--well his hands to be exact. When he would adjust my neck his thumbs would be on both my cheeks and when I left the doctor's office there would be red bumps on my face. These would last unfortunately for almost two weeks--just in time for my next visit. Could I trade my better feeling neck for red bumpy cheeks? I knew the cause of the dermatitis but, at first I thought the only solution to my problem skin was --find another chiropractor. That was just foolish because I would lose someone I trusted and he would lose--well money.
There was one soap that I used that didn't irritate my skin. The next appointment I got up the courage gave him a bar of that soap and said, "Please, before you touch me, wash your hands with this." Contact dermatitis and finding a solution isn't always that easy. I wrote that example not because I thought that you would find my red bumps fascinating but to let you know that most likely you are the only one that is going to be able to find the cause of your dermatitis. Now I am not suggesting that if you have some unusual skin condition that you don't seek medical attention. By all means get a professional opinion--no not your friend who thinks they know everything-- but your family doctor or a dermatologist. Please understand that there are many disorders that manifest as skin problems. If you are told that you do have contact dermatitis then you will have to do your own detective work and discover the cause, eliminate it and let your skin heal. I'll write a few more articles about contact dermatitis that may help you find what is getting you into difficulty to begin with.
